Perrine Hamel is the lead hydrologist at the Natural Capital Project, a partnership among Stanford University, the University of Minnesota, WWF and The Nature Conservancy. The project aims to develop science-based approaches to value nature's benefits to society and incorporate natural capital into the decision-making process. Perrine’s work focuses on the development and testing of hydrological services models for both rural and urban environments. Her research has a strong applied component and she has co-led watershed services assessments with NGO partners around the world, most recently in South-East Asia and Latin America.

Prior to joining the project, Perrine worked as an environmental engineer in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and earned her PhD at Monash University in Australia in the field of urban hydrology. Her dissertation work involved environmental monitoring and modeling work, including multi-scale modeling of stormwater management systems. Perrine holds a Master of Engineering from the Ecole Centrale Nantes with a major in Civil and Environmental engineering.
