Léa Hirschi is a Master of Laws (L.L.M.) candidate at Stanford Law School. She is passionate about exploring ways to improve cooperation between the private and public sector to foster the development of sustainable infrastructure projects with a special focus on the role of governments in prompting the deployment of clean energy infrastructures at a large scale. Léa also works on regulatory design and enforcement mechanisms in the environmental field. As a part of a policy lab team at Stanford Law School, she supported the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop a compendium on innovative practices piloted to improve the enforcement of the Clean Water Act. Currently, she is working on a research paper which looks at ways to improve the regulation of space debris – an area marked by growing economic and technological interest for space activities, but also by a failure to address harmful environmental impacts.
Léa grew up in France. She studied philosophy and law at Paris I Pantheon Sorbonne University and Paris II Pantheon-Assas University. After graduation, she interned in international law firms including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Linklaters for more than a year. Léa worked on various infrastructure projects in regulated sectors notably in energy, transportation and telecommunications. She also conducted comprehensive research on environmental regulation covering a broad range of topics from the European circular economy policy over the regulation of biofuels to support mechanisms for renewable energy facilities by the French government. For her studies at Stanford, Léa was awarded a scholarship from the law firm McDermott Will & Emery in partnership with Fulbright France.
