Numerous outlets reported on a new paper showing the impacts of high-tide flooding events on local businesses in the historic downtown district of Annapolis, MD. The Science Advances study by Stanford Ph.D. candidate Miyuki Hino working with Katharine Mach, Director of the Stanford Environment Assessment Facility, shows businesses in Annapolis lost 3,000 visits in 2017 due to rising sea levels spurring high-tide flooding. Greater impacts are expected in the future as sea levels continue to rise due to global climate change. Co-authors on the paper include Stanford MBA and E-IPER graduate Samanthe Belanger, Woods Director Chris Field, and Alexander Davies, Instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy.
